Hertz Rental Terms for travel between 01-Jun-2017 and 31-Dec-2024

Leisure Rentals
Please note that a deposit of the estimated rental charge, plus R1650.00, plus an additional deposit of 100% of the damage responsibility/first amount payable will be authorised on your card when collecting the vehicle. If there is no damage to the vehicle, the balance due to the customer will be released when the vehicle is returned.

Hertz car groups H, F, R, R1, M and M1 are rented subject to an industry standard luxury car policy and as a result for all leisure rentals the renter needs to produce two credit cards, both of which must be in the name of the renter. One credit card will be used to pay for the rental and related charges, whereas the other credit card will be used for security purposes. Both credit cards will be required at the time of check out to be imprinted on the rental agreement.

Please note that in Zimbabwe we only accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards.

Please note that with the implementation of e-Tolls these fees are excluded from your rates and we would like to reassure you that the billing solution will be automated and transparent.

Credit card rentals are subject to a credit worthiness check at the counter.

Cross-border Policy
Cross-border rentals are only permitted if pre-approved via our Call Centre. Our Call Centre can be reached on +27219354800.

Late Arrival Policy
Cars are kept for one hour after the stated arrival time. In the case of airport arrivals where you have a flight number, the car will be held for one hour after the flight has landed and cleared.

Gold customers
The car will be held for two hours.

If CDW is declined, you must provide proof of insurance (i.e. a current letter from your Insurance Company) and be responsible for the cost of repairing or replacing the damaged vehicle up to the full value of the vehicle. An authorisation of the Total (local currency) value of car applies at check-out , in addition to deposit required depending on rental type will be blocked on credit card. Otherwise, the vehicle rental could be declined.

'No Show' Policy
The rental will be refunded LESS a no show fee of R250 if Hertz are contacted within 90 days from original pickup date/time.

Cancellation Policy
Leisure reservations:
Changes to a reservation must be done at using the "Modify/Cancel" option or alternatively via our call centre.
Kindly note that any changes to the reservation may impact on the rental charges.
If a reservation is cancelled within 24 hours prior to the pickup time, a cancellation fee equivalent to 1(one) rental day of the total rental will be billed as per the reservation confirmation.

Block Bookings (refers to group Bookings with same pick-up & drop off dates / time): All segments – A Prepayment amount equal to 50% of the total rental value per vehicle may be required for 10 (ten) or more vehicles reserved at a time.

The Prepayment amount of 50% is required 30 days prior to arrival via EFT or credit card as surety for the bookings.

Cancellation fee / Rules applicable to BLOCK BOOKINGS:

If cancelled within 21-30 days prior to check out - 25% of deposit paid will be forfeited.
If cancelled within 14 –20 days prior to check out- 50% of deposit paid will be forfeited.
If cancelled within 3- 13 days prior to check out – 75% of deposit paid will be forfeited.
If the block booking is cancelled within 48 hours (2 days) prior to check out; then Hertz reserves the right to forfeit 100% (hundred percent) of the deposit paid.

Rental Charge Calculation
All rentals are calculated and charged per day (24 hours = 1 day). Late returns will result in a late return charge of a whole extra day.

GPS One-Way Fee
A GPS one-way fee will be charged for one-way rentals if a GPS is included.

GPS Replacement Fee
A GPS replacement fee will be charged in the event of a lost, stolen or damaged GPS unit.

Fuel Top Up Fee
South Africa: A top up fee of R30.00 will be applied to all rentals returned full.
Namibia: A top up fee of N$30.00 will be applied to all rentals returned full.

Zimbabwe: A top up fee of $3.00 will be applied to all rentals returned full.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
In the event of cancellation, any deposit amounts paid at the time of booking are non-refundable. 

If you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
